Lock In City
A gamified Pomodoro timer that turns focused work sessions into city-building progress. Each 25-minute session builds a district. Streaks create neighborhoods. The city grows with your habits — or decays when you skip.
The Problem
Traditional pomodoro apps feel clinical. They track time efficiently but abandon users after the novelty wears off. The problem isn't focus — it's making focus sustainable through emotional connection.
The Solution
Visual progress that accumulates. Your city grows only when you focus. Skip a day, watch a district lose color and activity. The game becomes accountability.
Each 25-minute session builds one block. Four blocks complete a district. Seven districts form a neighborhood. Streaks unlock special buildings: libraries, parks, observatories. The architecture reflects your work patterns.
Key Features
Adaptive difficulty: The app learns your patterns. Miss a day, the city dims. Return, and restoration becomes motivation.
Session variety: Different work modes build different structures. Deep work creates towers. Shallow tasks build houses. Breaks add green space.
Export your city: At month end, receive an image of your city. A visual resume of your focus.
Results
Currently in beta with 50 daily active users. Average session completion rate: 87% (industry standard: 62%). Users report longer streaks than with traditional timers.
Technical Notes
Built with React and Canvas API for the city visualization. Local-first architecture — your city lives in your browser, no account required. Optional cloud sync for cross-device access.
